Great news!

The deadline for the 2026 NJSBA STEAM Tank Challenge application has been extended to Jan. 2, 2026, to give our student innovators across New Jersey more time to dream big and bring their ideas to life. Whether teams are still brainstorming, building prototypes, or polishing their final pitch, this extension ensures every student can participate fully and confidently.

With this additional time, we hope more schools, clubs, and classrooms can join the movement and empower their students to tackle real-world challenges with courage and imagination. We can’t wait to see what New Jersey’s young STEAM innovators create next.

The STEAM Tank Challenge, created by the New Jersey School Boards Association, encourages STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) education for New Jersey’s public-school students.

STEAM Tank invites student teams to work collaboratively to identify and develop innovative solutions to issues such as climate change and the environment, societal problems, and situations that need resolution in our schools, communities, state, and globally. Students are asked to solve a real-world problem, invent something new, or modify an existing product. Many student-created solutions have the potential to reach the marketplace to help address technology, the environment, or social injustice.
