LTC Avery W. Grant, Ret., 91, of Braselton, GA, passed away on April 20, 2025, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, LTC Grant was raised and educated in New York City. He was a proud graduate of The Bronx High School of Science, earned his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from City College of New York, and went on to receive a Master’s in Transportation from Polytechnic Institute of New York University.
LTC Grant served his community as chairperson of the Long Branch Board of Education for an extraordinary 27 years. He was an active member of the New Jersey School Boards Association’s Urban Boards Committee, leaving a lasting impact on countless students and families. LTC Grant also valued his professional development as a board of education member, earning his Certified Board Leader, Master Board Member and Certified Board Member certifications through the NJSBA’s Board Member Academy.
LTC Grant also served his country with distinction in both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, earning numerous medals, commendations, and awards throughout his military career. He served as a division signal officer and later as a battalion commander. After retiring from active duty, he continued to serve for another 25 years in the Army Reserves.
In parallel with his military service, LTC Grant resumed his professional career as an electrical engineer, contributing his expertise to the New York City Transit Authority, the City of East Orange, and CECOM at Fort Monmouth in New Jersey.
He will be remembered for his unwavering service to his country, community, and family.
