In a July 8, 2026 broadcast memo, the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) provided guidance on the 2026-2027 charter school renewal process.
Notably, the memo announces that, in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6A:11-2.3(b)(1), the NJDOE is modifying the October 15th submission deadline to September 15th for the 2026-2027 renewal cycle. The memo details that 25 charter schools are eligible for renewal this cycle, and “to account for the large cohort of charter renewal, the NJDOE is allotting additional time for application review…by requiring all charter schools in the 2026-2027 renewal cohort to submit renewal applications to all required parties by September 15, 2026, to be eligible for a charter renewal. Please note, for the 2026-2027 renewal cohort, applications submitted after September 15, 2026, will not be accepted.”
