In a July 8 broadcast memo, the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) announced that its Special Education Ombudsman will host a Lunch & Learn series for district Special Education Parent Advisory Groups (SEPAGs).

The sessions will be designed for family members of students with disabilities and aim to “empower them with the knowledge and resources needed to actively participate in the development and implementation of their child’s special education program and services.” The Ombudsman will provide an overview of FAPE, parental rights, and strategies for addressing and resolving disagreements, highlighting proactive strategies for effective parent/district partnerships and communication.

Meetings will be scheduled individually with each interested SEPAG beginning September 21, 2026.
