On Sept. 9, 2026, the State Board of Education approved the proficiency level cut score for the English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics assessments of the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment-Adaptive (NJSLA-A). The NJSLA-A are provided for assessing student progress toward demonstrating a thorough understanding and essential knowledge and skills delineated by the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) for ELA and mathematics.

The state’s switch to new adaptive assessments in fall 2025 required NJDOE to establish new baselines for standard setting.

For details on individual cut scores, please see NJDOE’s broadcast memo. For any questions, please contact NJDOE’s Office of Assessments via email at assessment@doe.nj.gov.
