The New Jersey Department of Education has published additional guidance on student use of personal internet-enabled devices (e.g. cell phones, tablets, smartwatches) during the school day pursuant to P.L.2025, c.195, including a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) guidance document and a sample letter to families.

FAQ

The new FAQ guidance is designed to address common questions from district leaders, educators, families, and community members. It addresses questions regarding the general requirements of the law and student use of personal internet-enabled devices during classroom instruction, off-school grounds, and other common areas of concern.

Sample Letter to Families

The NJDOE has also published a sample letter that districts may – but are not required to – adapt to local needs to communicate their policies to families.
