Being Bullied as a Student, Shaped the Successful Teacher Today

Kristen Johnson, the 2025 Middlesex County Teacher of the Year, does not look fondly on her K-12 experience as a student. Bullied and harassed, this experience drives this social studies teacher to see all her students. It also created a love for the humanities as a way to connect with students’ social emotional needs. In an interview with NJSBA’s Ray Pinney, she discusses her background, her love of teaching, and what helps make a successful teacher.
