Donald S. Calderon, age 88, of Manchester Township, died Aug. 14, 2023.

Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, he went to college in Raleigh, North Carolina, and after graduation married his beloved Myrna. They then lived in Farmville, Virginia and Trenton and  raised their family in Newton from 1961 until 1981, before moving to Flemington and then to  Manchester in 2001.

Calderon was a forester for the State of New Jersey before becoming director of Stepping Stone Environmental Education Center. He then changed careers and worked for the New Jersey School Boards Association. First, he was a field service representative in the northern field office. He retired as the NJSBA’s director of policy and information services in 1993.

He loved rafting, golfing and the ocean. He was a volunteer for many years at the Nature Center at Island Beach State Park. Donald and his wife, Myrna, were avid travelers. They visited China, Australia, New Zealand, South America, and Europe, loved to cruise, and visited their son’s family yearly in California. They wintered in Deerfield Beach, Florida, until 2010.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Myrna; his son, Jeff Calderon and his wife Loida; his daughter, Susan Calderon and her partner Scott Gordon; and his granddaughter, Nikki Calderon-Proctor and her husband Adam.

Burial was in Cedar Park Cemetery, 735 Forest Avenue, Paramus.
