The New Jersey School Boards Association provides support in the form of resources, training and advocacy to help you tackle the challenges of boardsmanship efficiently and effectively. New school board members can take advantage of our wide range of services, starting with New Board Member Orientation Weekend.
Pursuant to the School Ethics Act, every newly elected school board member is required to participate in the orientation course within 90 days of being sworn in. You can find more information on this requirement in an article by the NJSBA’s general counsel, Carl Tanksley Jr.
This month’s New Board Member Orientation Weekend is full, but limited space is still available for the Feb. 23-25 program date. Held at the Crowne Plaza Princeton Conference Center, this is an on-site intensive, three-day training course.
Board members will learn how to effectively fulfill their responsibilities while attending large and small group sessions on topics including school law, policy, the School Ethics Act, ways to improve student achievement, school finance, labor relations, the board-superintendent relationship and advocacy.
Best of all, this program is entirely free. Costs, including all meals, materials and hotel stay, are underwritten by a grant from the Educational Leadership Foundation of New Jersey.
There is a limit of two members per district allowed to attend this weekend training. Registration for mandated training may only be completed online by your school business administrator. Please contact your district office to be registered.
All attendees will need a district email and will need to have been added to the census by the business administrator (with a start date of 1/1/24).
