Experts in homeland security, disaster preparedness, education, and law enforcement will share their perspectives at NJSBA’s School Security and Student Safety Conference on Friday, June 3 at the Conference Center at Mercer County College in West Windsor.
Guest speakers will include Commissioner of Education David Hespe, Assembly Education Committee Chairman Patrick Diegnan, and Eric Tysarczyk, director of policy and planning for the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security.
The full-day program will feature breakout sessions covering a wide variety of school safety topics, including long-term school security plans; communication technology; best practices to enable schools to respond quickly and efficiently to emergency situations; teenage driver safety; the design and implementation of school security solutions; incident prevention and response; and partnerships in school safety that use the Department of Homeland Security model of preparedness, prevention/mitigation, and response and recovery.
In addition, the School Security and Student Safety Conference will include a panel discussion featuring representatives of the New Jersey Department of Education’s Office of School Preparedness and Emergency Planning, municipal government, local school boards, and federal, state and local law enforcement. The program will also offer an interactive networking lunch, which will provide an opportunity to participate in round-table discussions on critical topics in school security.
Who Should Attend? In addition to school board members, business administrators, and superintendents, all district staff members who play a role in school safety will find this program valuable. These staff members include, but are not limited to, teachers, school resource officers, school security guards, and facilities managers. Parents also also encouraged to attend.
The program offers four credits through the NJSBA Board Member Academy.
