Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) impact student physical health, mental health and academic success. School systems must address poverty, food insecurity, transportation, homelessness/ housing, and social isolation as well as educational and health literacy. Addressing these determinants through interventions will foster a healthier, supportive environment, improving mental health and academic success. Wellness encompasses eight mutually interdependent dimensions: physical, intellectual, emotional, social, spiritual, vocational, financial, and environmental. Neglect of any can, over time, adversely affect the others. The concrete steps that will be enumerated and openly discussed are all meant to positively impact the well-being and mental health of the student population.
