Vincent DeLucia

The current atmosphere is filled with challenges for those leading our schools. “Calming the Waters of Turbulent Seas,” scheduled for May 17, 2023, is the first of a series of leadership programs focused on meeting member needs.

Aimed at equipping participants with the necessary tools to navigate educational leadership, the Leadership Conference will provide a forum for learning, networking, and collaboration.

A newly-announced session, “Leadership in Turbulent Times,” will explore the challenges of leadership. When behavior from the public or board members goes bad, it affects everyone. It’s important that those chairing public meetings have tools to keep the agenda on track while hearing everyone’s voice.

This session will be led by Vincent DeLucia, former mayor of South Brunswick and the longtime educator-in-residence at the New Jersey School Boards Association. He has more than 40 years of experience in education and was among the first 79 teachers in the country to achieve National Board Certification. He has held various roles in classrooms, school administration and school district leadership.

In December 2022, DeLucia was named to the board of directors of the Catalyst for Educational Change, a nonprofit consulting agency that works with school districts across the country to implement measurable social change. He regularly delivers presentations focusing on social and emotional learning, learning gaps, inherent biases and prejudices, leadership and other topics pertaining to education.

As reported in last week’s School Board Notes, Leadership Conference attendees will also get the chance to hear from the event’s keynote speaker, Anthony “Skip” Cimino, who served in the New Jersey General Assembly from 1988-1992 as a representative of the 14th legislative district.

The conference will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday, May 17, with registration starting at 9 a.m. It will be held at Resorts Hotel and Casino, 1133 Boardwalk, Atlantic City.

The cost for members is $125, while nonmembers pay $225. The conference offers four Board Member Academy Credits.
