Supervisor: Superintendent
Qualifications:
- Public school administrator certification or advanced degree in Education
- Superior communications skills required; demonstrated excellence in professional writing and editing
- Strong ability to comprehend, synthesize, and communicate educational theory, programs, and initiatives to multiple stakeholders
- Previous experience in advertising, public relations, or other communications field
- Proven record of collaborating effectively in a team environment
- Technological skills required to support and oversee district website and digital platforms, including student information system, mass communication system, and social
media - Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing Spanish
- Ability to be available outside traditional workday hours on an as-needed basis
purpose of this position is to coordinate and support the efficient flow of information and communications in the district.Duties and Responsibilities:
Information Management and Strategic Planning
- Serve as the Superintendent’s “Chief of Staff” with respect to information management
- Coordinate and support the efficient flow of communications in the district
- Under the direction of the Superintendent, independently manage and align multiple facets of strategic communication and community relations development using all available mediums, including face-to-face meetings, HSA meetings, press releases, print content, newsletters, and digital platforms such as the district website, social media, video and audio
- Partner with district administration and the Board of Education to offer a coherent communications/community relations perspective in preparation for presentations, written communications, program development, policy development, and operational decision-making
- Coordinate and direct crisis communications; serve on crisis management teams
- Assist in the preparation for and promotion of public referendums
- Collaborate with the superintendent, Central Office administrators, building principals, and the Board of Education as a thought leader in understanding, assessing, and responding to public sentiment and stakeholders’ communications needs
- Contribute substantively to the refinement and implementation of the district’s Communication and Community Relations Action Plan
- Establish annual objectives for communications/community relations programs and initiatives, and assess outcomes through formal and information research
- Collect, synthesize, analyze, and report information to help improve programs and operations
- Provide council to and assist Central Office administrators, principals, and the Board of Education in messaging district/school vision and initiatives and fostering highly effective home-school partnerships
- Establish robust communications networks with families and community members and serve as a liaison to constituent groups, including HSA and parents, MEF, local
organizations, and town officials - Develop and systematize protocols, best practices, and exemplars for communication and use of mass notification system to ensure consistency among Central Office and our 10
schools
Tactical Execution
- Translate district mission, strategic vision, core values, and key initiatives into digestible, coherent package for website, social media, digital, and print content
- Distill complex educational concepts and theories for public consumption via articles and press releases
- Increase district visibility, family engagement, and accessibility of information through impactful multichannel communications
- Collaborate with the Director of Technology and technology department on the maintenance and refinement of the district website and the coherency of digital platforms and social media
- Serve as webmaster and write, edit, and update content on the district’s website
- Assist in the training of staff in district communications systems and processes and provide ongoing troubleshooting support for website and mass notification
- Participate in the writing, designing, and preparation of a variety of district publications
- Supervise and assist in the preparation of correspondence and reports from the Office of the Superintendent
- Proofread and copy edit building- and district-level communications
- Attend professional development in school communications
Public Engagement
- Represent the Office of the Superintendent to both internal and external stakeholders
- Serve as point of contact to current and prospective families, media, peer institutions, outside agencies, realtors, and other members of the public; respond to and/or direct inquiries
- Coordinate with local media to schedule superintendent interviews, share district news, and provide public statements
- Plan and coordinate informational events and meetings for families, staff, realtors, and community members
- Attend certain school events, BOE meetings, and other student or school programs as necessary in order to develop press releases and news stories
- Send district alerts for school closures, delayed openings, emergencies, and updates; field all queries to the district’s “contact us” email address. Must be available early morning hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays on an as-needed basis for these purposes.

Contract Terms of Employment: Twelve-month position
