New Jersey's 2010 Annual School Election is currently scheduled to take place April 20, when approximately 1,500 school board seats will be on the ballot throughout the state. This year, the deadline for candidates to file nominating petitions is March 1.
However, Gov.-elect Christie and the incoming legislative leadership have expressed support for moving school board member elections to the November general election. At present, the existing April 20 school election date still stands.
For the convenience of school board secretaries and prospective candidates, NJSBA has posted its Candidate Kit online, which provides resources for anyone considering running for their local school board. NJSBA will not be providing printed kits at this time. NJSBA will notify school districts immediately of the prospects of any change in the date of the Annual School Election.
