The Hudson County School Boards Association met Sept. 24 at Bayonne High School in Bayonne.
Jose Soares (Kearny), president of the Hudson County School Boards Association, called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone in attendance, both in-person and virtually. He also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the generous hosts of Bayonne High School and the Bayonne School District for making the meeting possible.
The meeting business proceeded with Lou Schimenti, NJSBA associate director of exhibitions and cooperatives, giving the attendees a brief but valuable overview of Workshop 2024: Quest for Student Success.
Hector Gonzalez, Jr., a member of NJSBA’s board of directors, provided attendees with a comprehensive update on the Sept. 20 NJSBA board of directors meeting, ensuring that everyone was fully informed. Jeanne Cleary, an NJSBA field service representative, wished board members the best for the 2024-2025 school year and encouraged them to contact her with any questions or concerns.
Ray Pinney, NJSBA chief membership engagement officer, filled in and provided an impromptu program on “Eight Lessons on Team Building, Leadership and Life Learned Running the Length of New Jersey.” The attendees appreciated Ray’s flexibility in presenting at the last minute and hearing Ray’s story of his run of the state of New Jersey! Also in attendance was Robert Acerra, NJSBA county activities coordinator.
A variety of other important business was also conducted at the meeting. The HCSBA Executive Committee will host the next meeting of the Hudson County School Boards Association at Harrison High School on Monday, Nov. 25, 2024. The topic for this meeting will be “Mastering Board Operations and Robert’s Rules of Order.” This meeting will also invite all newly elected board members in the November election to join the meeting.
