The current atmosphere is filled with challenges for those leading our schools. “Calming the Waters of Turbulent Seas,” scheduled for May 17, 2023, is the first of a series of New Jersey School Boards Association leadership programs focused on meeting member needs.

Aimed at equipping participants with the necessary tools to navigate educational leadership, the Leadership Conference will provide a forum for learning, networking and collaboration.

The conference’s keynote speaker will be Anthony “Skip” Cimino, who served in the New Jersey General Assembly from 1988-1992 as a representative of the 14th legislative district. One of his most notable bills signed into law was the nation’s first bicycle helmet law, requiring children under age 14 to wear helmets while riding. He also was a sponsor of the School Ethics Act, creating the School Ethics Commission.

Cimino held leadership positions on various committees during his years of service. He served as chairman of the subcommittee on School Intervention, chairman of the State Operations and Personnel Committee, vice chairman of the State Government Committee and more.

With his decades of experience, along with being a Mercer County commissioner and a member of Hamilton Township’s Board of Education, Cimino has an extensive knowledge of leadership in both governance and education.

The conference will be on Wednesday, May 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Resorts Hotel and Casino, 1133 Boardwalk, Atlantic City. Registration begins at 9 a.m.

The cost to members is $125 and nonmembers pay $225. The event offers four Board Member Academy credits.
