• Virtual Programs for New and Not-So-New Board Members

  The program – “3Rs: Roles, Responsibilities and Resources” – will cover a variety of topics and will include time to ask questions and to network with board members from other districts.

• Vaccination Support Requested by Secretaries

  U.S. Department of Education Secretary Miguel Cardona and U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra sent a letter to school principals Nov. 8 asking for assistance with several key components to getting children vaccinated.

• Sustainable Jersey Gearing Up for ‘Deep Dive’ Webinars on Digital Schools

  Sustainable Jersey, a network and movement of over 400 municipalities and 300 schools and school districts working collectively to achieve a sustainable future, will hold several webinars in its “Deep Dive” series as part of its Digital Schools Program.

• Students Encouraged to Participate in the New Jersey Student Climate Challenge

  Educators and club advisers are encouraged to have students participate in the New Jersey climate challenge, which is free and open to all New Jersey public schools serving students in grades six to 12.

• Final Reminder: Register for the NJSBA Delegate Assembly

  The New Jersey School Boards Association’s semiannual Delegate Assembly will convene Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021.

• NSBA Advocacy Institute Trip on Hold

  NJSBA will organize New Jersey-centered events that will facilitate engagement within the state’s congressional delegation, create opportunities to advocate for federal actions that will enhance public education and update board members about timely topics.

• NJSBA Board of Directors Virtual Meeting Notice

  The meeting will be held virtually on Friday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m.

• Gov. Phil Murphy Appears to Win Reelection in a Hotly Contested Race

  In a surprisingly tight race, it appears that Gov. Phil Murphy was reelected to a second term of office. At publication time, he was leading Republican candidate Jack Ciattarelli by approximately 2.8% of the vote.

  

• Legislative Update: Governor Acts on Education Measures, Lame Duck Session of the Legislature Begins

  On Monday, Nov. 8, Gov. Phil Murphy acted on approximately 90 bills that the Legislature sent to his desk before going into recess this summer, including over a dozen school-related proposals.
