TRENTON, February 8, 2018–Gabel Associates, which manages the Alliance for Cooperative Energy Services (ACES), NJSBA’s cooperative energy-purchasing program, has issued the following notice to participating districts.
POSSIBLE SCAM OCCURRING IN PSE&G TERRITORY
It has come to our attention in the past couple days that some ACES member districts in PSE&G territory have received calls from an individual claiming to be a utility representative, indicating that their accounts are in arrears and that if back-payments are not forwarded within the next 30 to 45 minutes the electricity to their building will be shut off.
THIS IS A SCAM. Gabel Associates has been in contact with PSE&G’s Large Customer Support department and confirmed that the utility would never disconnect with a school district or municipal building in such a manner.
We are advising all ACES member districts to please be aware of this scam. If you have received a phone call such as the one described above and are located in PSE&G service territory, please reach out to PSE&G Large Customer Support at 800-664-4761. For ACES member districts located in other service territories, in the event that you receive a similar call, please note the following customer care phone numbers: JCP&L service territory, 800-761-4348; Atlantic City Electric, 800-642-3780, and Orange and Rockland, 877-434-4100.
