The New Jersey School Boards Association expresses its deep appreciation to Janet Bamford, chief public affairs officer, who retired from the Association on March 1, 2025.
Dr. Timothy Purnell, executive director and CEO of NJSBA, acknowledged Bamford’s 17 years of dedicated service in assisting local boards of education in their mission to advance the education of all children.
“Janet has been an invaluable asset to our organization,” he said. “Her expertise in public relations and her expertise as a writer and editor elevated the NJSBA Communications Department, enhancing how we represent the Association to the press, our members and the general public, as well as our advocacy efforts.”
Bamford is one of only three people to have been recognized with an NJSBA Champion Award, a recognition reserved for individuals who exemplify outstanding dedication and effort in areas such as teamwork, leadership, innovation and other qualities that help the NJBSA advance its mission to promote the achievement of all students. She received the award in January during a surprise luncheon honoring her for her service to the NJSBA.
Under Bamford’s leadership, the NJSBA Communications Department received multiple awards for its print publications. She also played a key role in coordinating the Association’s annual PR Forum, a highly anticipated event that consistently draws a standing-room-only audience.
Colleagues across the Association have expressed their admiration, respect, and appreciation for Bamford’s professionalism and mentorship. She was known for her generosity in sharing her expertise, guiding staff beyond their comfort zones, and fostering professional growth.
The NJSBA thanks Bamford for her years of dedicated service and wishes her all the best in her well-earned retirement.
