School Board Notes

The NJSBA reports on a large group of education-related bills that moved through the Legislature on June 30.

This year’s Workshop theme, “Your Ticket to Big Ideas and Bright Futures,” highlights our focus on encouraging students to “think big” and chase their dreams – no matter how distant they may seem.

Kathleen Asher, Esq., NJSBA Director of Labor Relations, underscored the critical role of legal professionals in education, and the importance of preserving rights in times of change.

School District grant applications are due on July 25, 2025.

When parents sought to have their children excused from instruction involving LGBTQ+ books, the school board initially compromised with the parents by notifying them when the storybooks would be taught. However, less than a year later, the board rescinded the parental opt-out policy.

Six decisions from the June 17 meeting were posted on the New Jersey Department of Education’s website.

The community turned out to celebrate the Valerie Still Youth Empowerment Zone basketball and pickleball courts.

The Outdoor Classroom Food Bus provides high school students a hands-on culinary training experience.

The award recipient has extensive experience in education advocacy. He  represented Bergen County on the NJSBA Board of Directors and contributed to strategic planning and leadership selection efforts.
