School Board Notes

The New Jersey School Boards Association’s Legislative Committee met Saturday, March 15, with Assemblyman Cody D. Miller, a Democrat representing Legislative District 4, serving as a guest speaker.

The theme of the spring issue is school security and student wellness, with the cover story featuring an article written by two administrators with the Robbinsville Board of Education in Mercer County: John Legere, information technology director; and Nick Mackres, school business administrator.

The New Jersey School Boards Association’s School Public Relations Forum will be held Friday, April 4, at NJSBA headquarters in Trenton.

The program will feature numerous sessions focused on creating and sustaining equity in New Jersey schools.

All New Jersey schools are asked to have the appropriate staff or administration member complete the 2025 Survey on Lactation Policies, so that the NJDOE can compile the necessary data to prepare its annual report.

In recognition of Earth Day 2025, the NJDOE is inviting New Jersey school districts to participate in a monthlong Action for Earth in April 2025.

Beginning with the spring 2026 administration, students eligible for special education and related services under the eligibility categories of specific learning disability, emotional regulation impairment, auditorily impaired, orthopedic impairment, and speech or language impairment are not eligible to participate in the Dynamic Learning Maps assessment.

According to the letter, New Jersey will again be issuing the one-time summer EBT benefit as a single $120 allotment per eligible child.

This nearly $2 million project will extend critical support to high-need school districts statewide through June 30, 2027.

Knock Out Opioid Abuse, an initiative by Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey and Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield New Jersey, is hosting “A Conversation About Athletes and Opioids” at Rowan University on Tuesday, April 29.

Dr. Johanna Ruberto, a former award-winning superintendent in Manville, will be stepping in as interim superintendent of Piscataway Township Schools at the start of April.
