The Hudson County School Boards Association met May 1 at Union City High School in Union City. HCSBA President Jose Soares (Kearny) called the meeting to order and welcomed attendees, both virtually and in person, to the final HCSBA meeting of the year. He introduced Silvia Abbato, superintendent of Union City Public Schools, who welcomed attendees to Union City High School.
Rudy Baez, principal of Jose Marti STEM Academy in the Union City School District, had the honor to introduce Jennifer Donnelly, the 2023- 024 Hudson County Teacher of the Year, who shared a powerful message about the importance of teachers working alongside school board members and school district personnel to advance the achievement of all students.
Karen Cortellino, M.D., president of the New Jersey School Boards Association, attended and offered warm greetings on behalf of the NJSBA. She was accompanied by Hector Gonzalez Jr., NJSBA board of directors’ delegate, who provided a comprehensive report of the NJSBA board of directors meeting. Robert Acerra, county activities coordinator at NJSBA, introduced Jeanne Cleary, field service representative at NJSBA, who will be working closely with Hudson County school districts. Acerra also presented the milestone awards and all NJSBA board member academy certification recognitions, acknowledging the hard work and dedication of board of education members in Hudson County.
