The Assembly Education Committee met Thursday, Dec. 12. Assemblywoman Pamela Lampitt (D-6), chair of the committee, led her final meeting prior to her departure from the Legislature at the end of the year.
In honor of the late Daniel T. Sinclair, who died July 6, 2024, and served as NJSBA president from 2017 to 2019 and as president of the Passaic County School Boards Association from 2014 to 2015, the PCSBA hosted its meeting at Lakeland Regional High School, where he served as a board member from 2016 to 2021.
The evening’s program was “AI: Embracing the Power of Artificial Intelligence in Education.”
The Marion P. Thomas Charter School Board of Trustees first achieved certification in the fall of 2023. After that, the board set a goal to continue its certification journey and complete it within a year.
Carmen Theresa Morales, a Democrat representing Legislative District 34; and Assemblywoman Lisa Swain, also a Democrat representing District 38, highlighted a variety of issues, including school funding.
The ratings agency S&P Global Ratings has raised the bond rating of Newark Public Schools from BBB+ to A-.
Given the breadth of action taken by the School Ethics Commission at its meeting on Nov. 26, 2024, it will be discussed in a four-part series.
