On Monday, Nov. 3, 2025, The New Jersey Parent Teacher Association presented Ray Pinney, NJSBA Chief Membership Engagement Officer, with the Meritorious Service Award. Presented during the annual NJPTA Convention, the award recognizes the recipient’s contribution to the welfare of children and youth in the community.

A longtime NJSBA staff member and child advocate, Ray has been with the NJSBA for over 27 years, and has worked with the NJPTA for 12 years.
Recipients of the award exhibit selfless devotion, great enthusiasm, and inspired leadership, promoting the NJPTA’s objective “to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children”.

Ray’s exemplary qualities are well known. Dr. Nicholas Diaz, NJSBA Deputy Director, is keenly aware of Pinney’s devotion to students. “Ray was recently surprised with the Meritorious Service Award, but it’s no surprise to us that he’s being honored. His dedication to New Jersey’s students and families makes this recognition well deserved. We’re proud to see his hard work celebrated in such a meaningful way.”
Sharon Roseboro, immediate past president of the NJPTA, echoes this sentiment. “Ray Pinney has been a valued partner of the New Jersey PTA for many years. His dedication and commitment to advocacy and the children of New Jersey is unwavering. We appreciate his positive spirit and his willingness to work alongside us. Ray has been an inspiration and blessing to me and will be the same to NJPTA’s new President.”
