Francis “Gerry” Spence, Northern Burlington Board of Education member, passed away on Sept. 1, 2025.
A Northern Burlington Regional High School alum, Gerry earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Industrial Arts from Trenton State College, followed by an additional master’s degree in School Administration and Supervision from Rider University. In 1968, he returned to Northern Burlington, teaching wood and metal shops, electrical and auto mechanics. He also served as the school’s student government advisor, and was the set director for the school’s drama and musical productions. Gerry taught for 39 years, retiring in 2007.
Continuing to contribute to education, he joined the Northern Burlington Board of Education in 2009, serving as a board member until his passing. Gerry worked tirelessly to support Northern Burlington students and the entire Northern Burlington community.
Gerry was predeceased by his parents, Francis and Veronica Spence, and his sister, Patricia O’Connor. He is survived by his daughter, Sarah, his granddaughter, Amelia Mae, and his sister, Regina.
