The New Jersey Department of Education recently issued an advisory inviting New Jersey local education agencies to participate in Climate Week 2024 from Sept. 22–29.
Climate Week is the largest annual climate event of its kind, bringing together hundreds of events and activities across New York City in partnership with the United Nations. Each year, business leaders, political change makers, and civil society representatives gather to champion change that is already happening in the transition to a net zero carbon emissions future. This year’s theme is “It’s Time.” New Jersey continues to be a proud participant in Climate Week.
New Jersey has a climate resilience strategy and statewide resilience action plan to address and mitigate climate change’s impacts, which include the implementation of educational initiatives. New Jersey was the first state in the nation to incorporate climate change education across content areas in the K-12 New Jersey Student Learning Standards.
LEAs can participate in Climate Week by:
- Sharing activities, events, or lessons highlighting the implementation of climate change education on social media utilizing the hashtags #ClimateChangeEducation, #ClimateEd, #ClimateWeek.
- Registering for and attending events hosted by the NJDOE-funded Climate Change Learning Collaboratives.
Additional resources include:
- The New Jersey Department of Education’s climate change education resources webpage.
