The Passaic County School Boards Association met May 29 at The Black Bull Steakhouse and Seafood in Riverdale. PCSBA President Charles Caraballo (Bloomingdale) called the meeting to order and welcomed attendees, virtually and in person, to the school year’s final county meeting.
Dalia Shalaby, principal at School #11 in the Clifton School District, introduced Amanda Rhodes, the 2023-2024 Passaic County Teacher of the Year, who is a fifth-grade teacher at her school. Rhodes shared a powerful message on how school board members can assist in building a welcoming environment for students and teachers.
PCSBA welcomed and congratulated Dr. Nicholas Bernice, the 2024 New Jersey State Superintendent of the Year, who has served as a county superintendent for eight years.
Ray Pinney, lead director of member training and engagement at NJSBA, and Robert Acerra, county activities coordinator at NJSBA, presented the milestone awards and all NJSBA Board Member Academy certification recognitions, acknowledging the hard work and dedication of the board of education members in Passaic County. Kelly Mitchell, a field service representative at NJSBA, delivered an update after the recognitions.
