In partnership with the New Jersey Department of Education, the Office of the Secretary of State is inviting New Jersey high schools to participate in New Jersey High School Voter Registration Week, April 14-20, 2024, which celebrates youth civic engagement and encourages all eligible 17- and 18-year-olds to register to vote.
To assist school districts, charter schools, renaissance school projects, nonpublic high schools and private agencies that provide educational services for high schools in complying with the requirements of N.J.A.C. 6A:32-14.2, the NJDOE has made available online a High School Voter Registration Statement of Assurance for school year 2023-2024, to be submitted to the executive county superintendent no later than June 30, 2024.
The SOA affirms that the school districts, charter schools, renaissance school projects, nonpublic high schools and private agencies that provide educational services for high schools by means of public funds have complied with all the requirements of the High School Voter Registration Law, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:36-27.
The High School Voter Registration Law requires administrators to distribute voter registration materials, a summary of voter registration eligibility requirements, materials describing the role of a citizen and materials articulating the importance of voting to all eligible high school students prior to graduation. These materials support the implementation of New Jersey High School Voter Registration Week and can assist districts in fulfilling their responsibilities pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:36-27:
- How to participate in New Jersey High School Voter Registration Week.
- New Jersey High School Voter Registration Week video.
- Be an informed New Jersey voter slide deck.
- High school Voter Registration Week event flier.
- Student voter registration and voting website.
