On Tuesday, Jan. 13, Governor Phil Murphy stood in front of the Legislature to deliver his final State of the State address prior to the conclusion of his term on Jan. 20. In his remarks, the governor discussed his administration’s priorities and achievements over the last eight years.

Regarding education, Murphy highlighted areas of advancement during his two terms in office:

  • Increased funding for K-12 schools to their highest levels in state history.
  • Restored funding for the state’s pension systems.
  • Signing P.L.2025, c.195 into law, which will require a bell-to-bell cell phone ban in schools beginning in 2026-2027.
