The Vernon Township Board of Education was officially recognized for achieving NJSBA Board Certification at the Sussex County School Boards Association meeting held on May 7, 2026, at the Newton Country Club.

The Morris County School Board Association Honors two dedicated leaders with 2026 Excellence in Boardsmanship Award.

Following a two-month “budget break,” committees in both the Senate and Assembly, including education, began meeting again last week to discuss legislation. 

NJSBA and NJASEPS are proud to recognize three outstanding programs as recipients of the 2026 Innovations in Special Education Awards.

On May 7, the New Jersey School Boards Association joined Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-05) at the Ann Blanche Smith Elementary School in Hillsdale to announce efforts to combat food insecurity. 

The state board of education held its monthly meeting on May 6, 2026. They published the proposed meeting and public testimony calendar for the 2026-2027 school year and discussed various topics.

The School Ethics Commission met on April 28, 2026, to discuss 12 matters in accordance with the SEC’s new/amended regulations. They also considered adopting 17 decisions, two new advisory opinion requests and making one advisory opinion public.

The New Jersey Department of Education announced the expansion of the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) Action Learning Group with Cohort 2 for 2026-2027. 

The New Jersey Department of Education is inviting districts to join New Jersey’s Teacher Climate and Culture Institute: From Insight to Implementation on July 28, 2026, at The College of New Jersey.
