On Sunday, March 29, 2026, the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) will present Steven Shohfi, Lavallette and Point Pleasant Beach School District board of education member, with the NJSIAA Award of Honor. Presented at the annual NJSIAA Hall of Fame Luncheon, the award honors individuals who have gone above and beyond and made a difference in high school athletics.

A member of the NJSBA Legislative Committee, Steven is a retired Physical Health and Education teacher, serving a total of 38 years, teaching in both the Union County Regional District and Kenilworth. He is currently a professor at Kean University, where he has taught for the past 13 years.
In addition, Steven has served with the NJSIAA in several roles, including past president of the NJSIAA Executive Committee.
Dr. Timothy Purnell, NJSBA Executive Director, believes that the award is well earned. “Steve represents the very best of board member leadership in New Jersey,” Dr. Purnell said. “As a longtime member of the Point Pleasant Beach Board of Education, a past president of the NJSIAA Executive Committee, and a valued member of the NJSBA Legislative Committee, Steve has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to students, both in the classroom and in athletic competition. This honor is not only well deserved, it is a testament to decades of thoughtful service and leadership.”
The NJSBA congratulates Steven Shohfi on his achievement.
